The
emergence of International Organisations (IO) after
the Second World War represents, by far, one of the
most emblematic aspects of the today`s international
system, due to the fact that International Organisations
as actors seem to defy two of the most traditional principles
of the international system: anarchy and state center
logic. Coming out as an instrument for National States
to develop their own interest, IO have turn into an
autonomus objetc of study, both from a political an
legal perspective. Such autonomy has lead analyst to
consider IO not only as subjects of international law
but also as key actors capable even to determine the
behaviour of the States that created them.
This area will
focus on the integrality of the IO phenomenon, regarding
it´s impact both on International Relations and
International Law. Therefore it will be essential for
the area to approach the study of IO´s as subjects
of international law, considering their rights and obligations,
inmunities, privileges and restrictions. As well as
observing and analysing their inner structure, functions,
special assingments and desition making mechanisms.
Moreover, this
area will take on specific study cases for evaluating
IO´s behaviour regarding it´s funding purposes
and principles. Hence, the criteria for selcting the
IO´s for study will relay on their linkage with
the current Argentinean foreing affairs agenda, specifically
on development and security topics.
In addition, it
will of vital interest for this area to analyse the
process of adaptation of the IOs given the structural
changes of the international system post 9/11, as well
as the role they play on regards of global governance.
